The
Red Cross of the Sea from Arriluze performs search duties, both at sea
and from the coast, in order to locate and identify oil spills from the
"Prestige" oil tanker, sunk close to the Galician coast the last November.
The lifeboats from the Red Cross of Arriluze search the coast every day to a 10 miles distance, giving information about their results to the Basque Government´s crisis board so cleaning ships can inmediatly be sent to the required position. |
Efectives
from our base together with the Alpine Red Cross, also based in our station,
search from the coast as well and direct the lifeboats to possible spill
locations.
Similarly, they perform periodical inspections on the coast and give information about the points in which the spills arrive the shore so they can be cleaned afterwards. |
